A180 Cdi service

Hello there,

My diesel A class is asking for its first service in 30 days, dealers in W and NW London are quoting me around £250 for what is essentially an oil and filter change!!

Would anyone here recommend a dealer outside the capital? I am from overseas, and I quite like the idea of being able to have it done cheaper and visiting another town/city at the same time.

That is about the right rate. The synthetic oil costs a bomb nowadays. If you buy it cheaply in Halfords (check handbook for correct grade) you will save a lot and most MB dealers will let you do that.

You could try my local dealer in Southampton.

The A service is only 1 hours labour so you won't save much wherever you go (unless they use cheap oil or non mb parts). Don't forget you get free breakdown cover (costs over £100 from the AA for man and wife and another £100 if you want Euro cover. All in free with MB service.

For average mileage, servicing only costs about 2.5p per mile -the small change of motoring. And they will update your software and do any mods or improvements via so called 'service campaigns'. Well worth the cost IMO.

My local dealer, MB Chester, advertises A services on most models for £199 - I think A Class may be cheaper but I'm awat from home at the moment so can't look at the pricing. They're part of the Inchcape group and have locations mainly in the North West and Midlands:
