Hello all,

I wonder if any of you good people can help?
We have an A180D, the car is registered 03/2016, we bought it at an Merecedes Dealership through the approved used programme in November 2019. It had 36k on the clock when we bought it , it has done 13k since so just over 49k now and the rod in the engine has snapped !!!!

The car has been serviced and maintained , the last service since we bought the car was at an AA approved garage using OE oil filter and correct oil, does any one know of engine issues with this model ?

The car needs a replacemnet engine and so far we are not getting much help , I would appriciate any advice if you can help?

Thank you :)

Mercedes can sometimes give goodwill gestures on cars outside of warranty, my car is a 2016 car and they have recently done so for mine but that normally requires the car to have had a main dealer service histor.

I‘m sure someone will be along shortly with more useful advice but maybe a second opinion is needed as it’s not a cheap option to replace an engine.

I cannot see mercedes stripping an engine to replace a rod. Mercedes will happily quote you 10k and drop a new lump in.

Where are you based. Maybe someone can recommend you a good garage. Find a good merc indy.

Even if it was 50/50 I am sure a MB indy will be cheaper hence the need to get some quotes and find a MB indy who knows these cars.

You question if MB will go 50/50. You dont know till you ask. But 50/50 is high for MB. 1) why should they, 2) reduced goodwill not having been thier customer -
no goodwill 3) an OE filter is not genuine MB filter and what was the oil.

Just some curveballs to think about when you approach the dealer.

Good luck and keep us posted
