Hi, I know this is my first post but I have just about had it with Mercedes..... I assure you this is true and I would like advice from anyone willing to give.

My A class 210 is now just coming up to 4 months old, on the day of collection I coudnt wait to get it in and drive away from the dealers it would be the first time I was going to see what it actually looked like in the flesh as I have ordered it blind.
On arrive at the dealers I noticed that one of the wheels had been caught and there was a nasty make in the face, also there was an oil leak !!!! Well they fixed the oil leak before I took the car but told them that I would book the car in for the wheel to be machined (I that kind of person).

Anyway 2 weeks whet by and I started to notice a ticking noise, at first I thought it was the speako cable. Took the car to the dealers and they said it was a tappet !!! So the car was booked in they had the car for the wheel and the tappets for 2 weeks and the car came back and was covered in all kind of Cr4p and the noise was still there. Any way to cut a long story short. 4 visits later and they say that the ticking noise is a characteristic of the car!!!!!!!! well ive now put it in to the hand of a soliciter and am trying to get the car backed !!!!!

The question i am asking is, is there anyone on this forum that has a A210 that has or has not got this ticking noise?? I would love to here from you, if you email me you contact number I am willing to call you!!!!

Thanks for your time and look forward to hearing for you.

I borrowed an A210 for the day and heard no tapping then.  If you really like the car then complain in writing to Mercedes customer assistance, I did on my first A class, the dealer soon heard about it.  It has to be said, the dealers don't seem to be all that helpful or knowledgeable, especially on freshly introduced models..

Find out the names of all the dealership bigwigs and fire off emails faxes and letters stating your car is not fit for the purpose it was bought and your dissatisfaction with the people at mercedes who have dealt with you so far. Time is not on the consumers side so maybe get a solicitor who specialises in consumer law to fire off a letter (this can cost between 100 - 200 quid). We had a troublesome A190 and we are now in the process of changing it for another Mercedes. Try not to lose too much faith in Mercedes, I think you and I just bought duff ones

I would insist on a new wheel, what happens in 3 months when it starts to corrode? warranty will not be interested as it has been tinkered with.

Get on to someone at the dealership higher up I.E General Manager, they hate to deal with customers and will more than likely sort it out with the service guys PDQ, if no joy ask to see your Regional After Sales Manager, he works for DCUK and has a bit more clout, tell him if it is not fixed soon you want them to buy it back.

I've heard of a company called Albany Legal Protection (uninsured loss recovery service) from my gf's dad, and he suggested I give them a call regarding my problems with my C240 (see post crashed C240 - repairs botched!)

they were very good with my my gf's dad and handled everything...

If you need details let me know...

My uncle bought a brand new old shape E240. Has 2.6 New engine. Same Ticking noise - tappets. Again, dealer says its a "characteristic."

I am arguing with them still, more important things came up like the ball joint was loose!!

I am losing faith in the quality of new Mercs.

Anyway, please keep us updated on ure ticking noise.

thanks

Jay

If you cannot any joy out of the Dealer Principle where you brought the car, then as previous messages complain in writing or email the Mercedes customer assistance, get the name of the the service team manager and "sit on his head". They are usually polite but nothing happens, so you need a name of somebody with clout. May sound daft but how about Top Gear for clout.
