Had our renewal letter through and is on mrs name, so its on one of these auto renews.
it was #160 for op 300 fo both of us which is second from top.... looked on the net and its 128 for us both
will need to give them a stern talking to me thinks...... i dont get why not offer the same price as on the net, just cause we been with them for a while they think they can take the mickey and the poor sod who dont bother checking gets stung!!!!!!

will keep you informed of outcome otherwise i think a move to RAC will be on the cards..

Did you call AA out during your membership with them ?

AA increased my renewal quote as well, but then i switched to RAC, my second year with them now and they havent increased the renewal quote. They are both good actually. There are many others as well, and at a lot cheaper price but dunno how good they are !!!

Hi,
Get a Lioyds Bank Platinum Current Account you get AA membership free as a perk of the account.
I get AA Breakdown Cover and Accident Management with Roadside Assistance, Relay and home start, apparently worth £159.

Good news,
Called and spoke to aa, they gave me the online price staright away of 128 for both but as i had seen RAC do a similar cover for 109 i mentioned this, the lady looked at our history and we have been with them for years and only called 1-2 times she matched the price for op 300 cover which is second from top package.... i was quite happy with that...

thanks andy, i used to have a gold ac with them, but you have to keep a certain amount in the ac at all times to get it free else they charge you for it.

I've found the AA ok, I mean you can only use them 6 times a year on my policy before you have to pay out more for extra!

I've been relayed home too...

They've saved my ass many a time to be honest. Can't remember how much it is I pay though, I think I'm on joint account with my mum.

RAC for me

I've been a memebr of both AA and RAC - they are the only ones I'd ever use, both have come to my rescue in days when I had lesser cars. Others promise the same service but noone deliver the same focussed fleet of support.

I've been with RAC since 1999 and only called them out once since then! They give you a discount every year so now I am paying peanuts. In fact I don't think I've ever had need to call them out to attend to my Merc since I've owned a Mercedes!!! (touch wood).

Well after reading this thread, and checking when our renewal is due,
I too gave the AA a ring, and low and behold they price matched the web figures. :D

We are on option 300 aswell so a saving of £32 for us :-D

I'd stick to the AA. I was with the RAC a few years back. I was stuck on the side of the motorway for 4 hrs, at night, in the middle of december. Luckily the engine was still working or I'd have froze to death. The van that eventually arrived couldn't fix me or tow me(car was a range rover at the time) so I had to wait a further 1 1/2 hours till a low loader arrived.
Worst of all I missed my works christmas night out!!

Bit of a different subject -ish my home and contents renewal just came in and had more than doubled, haven't used it either!!

Went online and the same policy exactly is actually £80 quid cheaper than last years!!!!!!
Phoned up renewal hotline and was told to stop old policy from renewing and to take out new policy online to qualify for discounts!!!
These people are obviously relying on us not bothering our backside to change or look for better deals !!

I always renew my car/home contents/building insurance online with the same company every year as you get around 10% discount for doing it online.

Yes, 100% correct that is how they make their £££££.
For the sake of an hour or two on the phone or tinternet you can not spend* anything like as much as the renewal.

*I don't use the word "Save" in this instance as you are spending money not saving it! This is one of the things that really bugs me, you cannot save money by spending it no matter what the marketing peeps say

The Boss (She who must be obeyed) has our AA cover in her name - It's due for renewal in a couple of weeks.

Today, she got a call from them, asking if she wanted to get it at £128, instead of £160? - to do so, she needed to put the cover on Direct Debit.

So we just need to check up on them again this time next year - and cancel the DD if we need to ;)

I'd stick to the AA. I was with the RAC a few years back. I was stuck on the side of the motorway for 4 hrs, at night, in the middle of december.

And contrary to that i'd had no issues with the RAC, and yet the AA left me and 4 others stranded in a van (crew cab) for about 5 and a half hours at the side of the A52 in i think January or Early Feb. Unfortunately we'd lost all power, everything. lights, the lot, as if someone had disconnected the battery (which effectively it had been only not at the battery). some argument about vehicle length, saying they only come out to vehicles 18feet and under and ours was 23.... It wasn't it was 18. We measured it there and then. then they sent out a guy with a normal truck, he came out couldn't fix it, but couldn't tow us. Whilst he was there he measured the van at 18 feet. So he left, we heard nothing for 2 hours and then decided to phone again. Without telling us they had cancelled everything because we were 23 feet. Which of course we still weren't. We had to pay to be recovered after nearly 6 hours of fing about with them. £300 and the remaining 12 miles of the journey later we managed to get the van repaired for about £15.

they're all fantastic until you need anything.
