ABC suspension system

I have a 7 year old Mercedes CL600. It has always been looked after and has only done 60,000 miles.
Just recently the ABC warning light came on at the start of my journey but then went off. Next time it did not come on at all.
Now it comes on all the time and the warning is in red. The car rides like it has no shock absorbers.
A Merc dealer has told me the suspension pump is shot and needs replacing and that the whole job will cost £1800. (After only 60,000 miles!!!)

Before they examined the car they also told me the same pump runs the power steering and 'has probably lost all it's fluid.

However, the power steering is working perfectly and the pump is still full of fluid.

Could the fault be something else? I just feel that they may be trying to rip me off here and that a new pump should not be needed if I still have power steering.

Who else is better to comment on the cars they made? You just have to believe them.

It is a tandem pump with two sections to it.

The pumps are a pig to fit and labour intensive. Hence the price.

I suspect the pump is the issue but it may need other items. If there are any leaks they need to be sorted too.

ABC systems are expensive to fix and I have fixed many in my time.

Is the pump is leaking, or is it a strut gone,, looking under the wishbones on all 4 wheels, you would see if it has been leaking and fluid would be all over the inside of the tyres and wheels.

Do take care driving the car as it will be very low with the danger of damaging the front wheels
