I recently checked your forum for some info on a problem with my CLK. Thanks for the help, as it turned out to be the old problem with the brake light switch. Fitted it myself and fixed for a tenner.
It would not come on every time, just during different driving conditions.
When I looked at the switch that I replaced, it was indeed faulty, with the plunger going past it's required operating position.
I must add also that an earlier symptom was going through brake light bulbs, leading to the eventual ABS/ASR dashboard light coming on.
