If you search the forum you will see that replacing the brake light switch might fix this common issue

It could be sign of a failing brake light switch. You could get the codes read rather than face being stranded in the future.

Depends on the cost of getting codes read our local merx garage knows nothing about mercedes I think I'll take my chances as I have a couple of spare in the car

It could be a failing brake light switch, however, when I had a similar problem on my old E430, it turned out to be a failing battery - it was after all the original factory one.

The drop in temperature overnight was enough to cause the battery to be slightly under voltage on start-up. This triggered warnings that went away when the car was restarted after it had run for a couple of minutes.

+1 for the battery.
It's starting to get cold overnight now and weak batteries are showing up.

Yes got to be worth the £12 for a brake switch, its cheaper than anything else

As said ive got about three spare brake light switches in the glove box but thinking about the battery when I first start the car in the mornings I turn the key and it turns over slowish I let go of the key a second then turn it over again it then turns over faster and starts but when I think back further last winter I did have to put the battery charger in it a few times
