I have been having a few problems with my mercededs 230 kompressor (4 years old). After a long distance drive my car would suddenly drop down into safe mode (1st gear) and display 4 faults on the computer: ABS, EPS, BAS and Brake Lining Faulty. The 1st time this happened an engine light was displayed in on the dashboard, and has been on constantly since. When i leave the car over night or for a good few hours, the other 4 faults seem to get ok, and i am able to drive again, with no malfunctions.
this is an ongoing problem, and a very serious one as i drive with children in the car. Has any1 got any ideas as to what could be wrong?

Normally the ABS,ESP,BAS warnings comes on as a result of a faulty brake light switch, but that shouldn't affect the engine management so shouldn't go into safe mode.

When seemingly unrelated problems suddenly occur at the same time, the cause always seems to come back to the OVP relay.

thanks for your reply. would u know why the engine light is on consistantly? Can there be a problem with the computer - hence it could be faulty and sending wrong signals to the gear box which causes it to go into safe mode? Can it be possible that there could be something wrong with ALL the parts that appear in the malfunctions (naming ABS, BAS, EPS, Brake Lining)? Also what is the OVP Relay?

ovp,,over voltage protection relay, if your brake light swich is faulty it will store fault in the ETC control, electronic transmisson control, this then feeds the info to motor electronis ME-SFI, thats why your engine light was on,the other reason for the same warning lights is a RPM sensor,ABS,BAS and ESP all work together and if a fault is picked up in one system it will feed into others, the engine light will stay on now untill fault codes are cleared out, even if you change swich, with the a-class you can change brake light swich but car stays in limp mode till memory erased, hope some help, swich about a £10.00,easy to change...
