Abs fault

I have a fault showing my abs, the fault that came up on my icarsoft was the right hand side rear speed sensor, so I replaced it and cleared codes, but fault has come back say left hand rear side now, took a live reading and both speed sensors have no value.
is there anything else I can check before I replace the left hand side one.

Did you use an MB speed sensor on the RHS?

I had one go faulty and I replaced it with a genuine MB one and the iCarSoft showed a speed for that wheel as soon as I had it done.
The other side failed with 500 miles and I also replaced that with an MB one -- all good since.

totally normal they fail at the same time.

Make sure you replace with genuine.

One of mine failed, replaced with genuine, other side failed 2 months later (replaced with non genuine) which then failed a year later. Then replaced with genuine.

A few years later the message returned and changing the alleged speed sensor done nothing. It was then abs control module. not cheap and needs coding to the car with star.

This was on my w220

Hi,
Faults won't stop for me, bad luck I believe with my s211. At least they are minor ones and easily fixable.
I was planning to replace my glow plugs today but yesterday my abs/esp failure light came on my instrument cluster. So change of plans for today.
Icarsoft advised the rear right speed sensor.
Did some short driving after switching off engine and going in hidden menu and deactivating the abs/esp for Dyno mode.
With the esp off and in dyno mode, I had a normal hydraulic steering wheel.
With the fault on (so not in Dyno mode) my steering wheel is heavy and cannot manoeuvre easy, like the steering becomes mechanic and non hydraulic.
I read that it can even be from low battery voltage or the brake light switch on the pedal.
Battery charged for a whole day so it's not this.

From what I am reading above I will purchase two rear abs sensors and replace both of them.
Thanks guys, will advise in few days for my results.

I bought a bosch sensor, don’t see why it has to be genuine MB one, can understand if it’s a cheap unbranded one.

It has been noted a few times and even by respected Indies that with these speed sensors, MB only seem to like genuine sensors. Even Bosch ones fail prematurely

car goes into garage tomorrow, so will let you know how it goes, I’m hoping it’s not the wheel sensor rings as I don’t fancy changing them in this cold weather.

don't be surprised if the hub is at fault , the reluctor ring rotts off and the sensor cant read it properly , I always check the hub before replacing the sensor just to be sure

Just as I thought it’s the wheels sensor rings, been quoted £293 to replace them both

if your talking about reluctor ring replacement , then I reckon that's pretty steep , the parts are £50 ish so its mainly labour to change them

I'd expect that's the very most you'd pay too. I bought the 'expensive' forum recommended rings for my Smart .... the fit was 'baggy' at best .... sock & *ock springs to mind. I ended up buying the cheapest off eBay (which were made locally) and they were perfect ... they were that cheap that I bought 2 pairs because I thought the price was each!

I changed both sensor and ring myself so any competent backstreet garage could do this job.

So probably is the magnetic ring and don't believe I will be able to do it myself.
Any suggestions for garages in Hertfordshire are welcome, thank you.

PS: hopefully it's not the same situation with my parking sensors where icarsoft was advising as faulty the left outer rear sensor and at the end it was the right outer rear sensor. Had this in my mind yesterday after the replacement of the right abs sensor.

Ignition on & select reverse
Nip round to sensors, cup ear close to each sensor in turn - if you hear a low whine/hum, it's working; if there's no whine/hum... that's your culprit.

Update on car, sensor rings replaced, but then they found both rear springs had broken so had them replaced, all is ok now apart from my wallet which is £568 shorter

Hi again, yesterday I took my e320cdi from the independent Merc garage near my area. Its the one I have been visiting in the past for my ex CLS500 too.
Job done, fault has gone after the replacement of the magnetic ring on the rear right corner. Labour and part including vat cost me £200, I believe it's a fair price (the part according to my online research was cheap so the cost is the labour).
The guy who worked on my car has a s211 like mine, similar miles and same age. He said that my car is very well looked after and in a much better condition than his.

To be honest, the interior is in mint condition like new, these 211 and 219 cars and their cabins' materials were from proper-proper quality.

That's a very good price for both rear rings. This week, I paid £200 for just the one ring (rear right) at a Merc specialist, area Herts.
I tried for few quotes from a general garage and from another independent Merc but both said they don't have a special tool needed for the job.
