200e W124 Auto Petrol
Car has run perfectly for 10 years but has been laid up for 6months.
Now the ABS light is on permanently (although it used to go out after a short drive - I have driven it once a month during the period).
Also it stalls and runs rough intermittantly and throttle response is poor. It will start after many attempts. I've checked all the usual things but is very intermittant and difficult to trace - it can run perfectly for hours. I have read about the OVP Fuse but have not found it. Any advice welcomed

Your OVR is in the module box under bonet, the unit goes dry jointed normally, most need replacement due to age, Normally cures ABS and poor running (idle).

It's located behind the battery and has a fuse on top

ABS & Stalling

THere appears to be two ECUs and a couple of relays - both are black, one is long, one is tAll.
I've seen pictures of W124 relays but these do not look anything like what I have. (Red top Silver top etc) any ideas of what to look for ?
I've heard of soldering etc ....... but not really sure of what is required. It a 1989 model - if that helps.

As Ian says it has a fuse on top, take a look in the other fuse/relay box.

The red and silver relay is a newer designed replacement for the old black OVP relay. The OVP and fuel pump relays are in by the battery.

This has happened to a 190E 2.3-16 I bought recently. It was little used for the last 12 months or so & the ABS light is on all the time. Could it be the same problem & solution?

If it sounds like it is could someone direct me to the relevant bit to examine?

There is two relays in by the battery, to the left of battery in behind a plastic flap by the firewall. One is a fuel pump relay, the other is a OVP or "over voltage protection relay". Buy a Haynes Manual for your car.

Had the same problem on our 230TE. After finding the OVP relay, there were two 10A fuses on top. One was blown. Replaced it and everything returned to normal; ABS light went out, it started promptly and the idle returned to normal from being too low.

ABS & Stalling

An update.
I found the OVP (Sat behind the firewall as described but also under a black cover all of its own - so missed it) Thanks to all who replied.
So the story so far
ABS on permanently (was off until i hit 90mph then flashed on and has stayed on ever since)
ABS Senors have been cleaned on the front wheels (is there one for the rear ????)
Relays on top of ABS unit have been changed.
I'm sure this is still an electrical fault and the car still runs a bit rough when ticking over - especially from cold.

Any more ideas please\as it doing my head in. I'll should also post this in the brakes section where this should belong.

ABS light on, erratic idle and hard starting = faulty OVP relay and not ABS relays.
