I,m sorry if this is going over old ground again, but ----

Recently my 1997 c180 gave a dull thud which seemed to come from the transmission, followed by the abs light illuminating on the dash - This was while coasting downhill. The gearbox went into what I assume is limp mode -
1st gear only. Selection of drive or reverse is best described as lumpy!

Does this sound like a severe wallet bashing problem?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

best way is to get the fault codes read and go from there, you can try disconecting the battery for 10 mins and then seeing if that makes any difference.

Could be no more serious than a wheel speed sensor failed, but as above you need the codes read to identify which one.

If it was a long hill, this is not good for the gear box as there is no rear pump and they can over heat

Thanks for the advice.
I did have the fault codes checked and it related to a rear wheel sensor. My car is a non traction control model and only seems to have one sensor in the area of the diff'.
The new sensor has been fitted and all seems to function as normal.

For ref the bill was £160 - 00p
