Can anyone please confirm whether the item arrowed in the pic is the diff. sensor for the ABS system on my W124 E300D? If so, am I right in assuming that it simply measures propshaft speed - or is it more clever than that?
Thanks in advance....

Thanks, Malcolm.......so it should be possible to use the signal to drive an after-market cruise control unit? My speedo cable doesn't appear to have a speed sensor take-off and though I have fitted one in the past, I feel it would be much easier just to pick up the ABS signal........

look in the passenger kick panel for a green/white wire, or there is one on pin 1 of the power plug on the radio.

Much easier

Thanks, Malcolm....by "kick panel", I presume you mean the small panel just forward of the front passenger door? You have aroused my curiosity; is this derived from the ABS sensor? and why would there be such a signal on the radio power plug?? Just curious! Malc (another one!)

Yes that it,,its called a speed signal and is used on the radio to increase the volume as the speed increases,it used on Command navigation

It goes up to pin one on the radio, I have just done a post on a 124 where the radio was changed and the guy lost cruise control

It should also be in the foot well

Thanks again, Malcolm; I'll have a rummage in there & see how I get on! I did have a look under the cruise control box of tricks behind the fusebox, but couldn't decide which wire I needed. My only circuit diagram shows a yellow & a blue wire as the sensor input, but that didn't seem to be the case on my car. I'll go for the green/white as you suggest. Cheers, Malc.

Just a thought......would that green/white also be present at the control unit in the engine bay? As my Cruise unit will be located there, it would actually be more convenient than bringing it in from the cabin. (Slow progress on this project due to having to remove fuel tank to clear blocked fuel return line )

Happy to report that I have now found the correct wires - it does help to be searching on the correct side of the vehicle
However, I now have a slightly different problem which is that the cruise control unit I have fitted is over-sensitive and I suspect the pulse frequency is too high.
So - can anyone tell me how many pulses per rev. are generated by the Diff. ABS sensor? Or, alternatively, how many "teeth" there are on the generator disk?
Thanks in advance.....

I'd check the diff mounts - the input seal of the diff appears to be leaking. Whilst that's not exactly uncommon (in fact it's standard) when the diff mounts go soft the torque twists the diff on its mounts and the input bearing seal ovalises

Thanks, Nick......actually, the diff mounts were changed by the dealer before I bought the car & I am keeping an eye on the leak. I don't do many miles so I'm hoping to get away with it! ;)
