I have an intermittent problem with the ABS warning light. It appears intermittently at the start of the engine. The light flickers on and of for several seconds at a time, but so far, always goes off within a minute of driving.

I have noticed that:
1. the light is affected by changes in current demand. e.g. pressing the window
just after the light had gone off, can bring it back on for a second.
2. turning on the ignition for five seconds without turning over the engine,
seems to prevent the light coming on at all.
3. once off, the light does not return until the engine is restarted.

I have road tested the ABS and it seems to work well all of the time.
Panel issues? or brake issue?

Thanks
Ray

This must be the OVP relay, a common fault

It's an old/week battery, needs charging or replacing OR the alternator is not making enough voltage.

A voltmeter is the only safe way of finding it, the battery before starting should be at least 12v better is 12.5, the running voltage should be 13.8 volt.

When the ABS lamp comes on from the start, it means a low voltage and the OVP will give 7.5 volts if the fuse on top has gone or if it is faulty

There should be 12,volt on pins 87

Malcolm,

Thanks, that sounds a whole lot better than an ABS problem.
the battery is new (@ Xmas), so I will start with dirt fuses and the OVP relay.
Is it as simple as going to the ABS fuse in the main box and cleaning/checking?

Many thanks

No the fuse in the top of the OVP relay, its the only one with a fuse on top
