Accelerator C240 - c240 trim above accelerator

While driving on a quiet stretch of road I put the accelerator to the floor only to find that when I relaxed my foot off the pedal the car was still accelerating. I braked against the acceleration and also stabbing franticaly at the accelerator pedal which ultimately came back up.
I subsequently realised that the trim above the accelerator pedal had "come down" and prevented the pedal returning. BEWARE!

I had a similar thing happen on my 190e whilst trying to test the kickdown for the first time, i dont know about other models but the accelerator pedal on the 190 is hinged on the floor. Whilst pressing the pedal to the floor the rubber slipped to the side and wedged the pedal down fully. A change of underwear and brake pads were needed shortly afterwards.
