I was wondering how easy it might be to add the official MB multi-disk CD unit to my W203 which already has a COMAND unit. Having to take out the map disk everytime you want to play a CD is a bit of a pain.
Has anyone done this already, and if so are there any problems and what sort of costs are involved?
Thanks in advance................

Its actually quite an easy job to do as all power/data/wakeup comes from the comand/MOST/D2B. If your car is a pre facelift (CD based comand) then it will cost about £150 for a changer from ebay (if you a willing to risk it) or about £400 from a dealer for anew one. The cables are about £60 all-in. Fitting is fun if you take the glovebox out. a lot easier if you dont;-)

Post facelift, the parts including changer come to about £450 all told. fitting is a bit more difficult but not too bad.

Take a look at my HOWTO on the 'other' forum for fitting a Cd changer to a pre facelift car and take a look at richards excellent website http://www.mercupgrades.com for details on fitting a MOST based changer.

Top Man Alfie. My W203 is 54 reg, therefore is the post-facelift
I have just had a quick look at the instructions for retrofitting a CD changer in the A/B class cars, and if thats anything to go by, then I will NOT be attempting it myself. It all depends on your skill levels of course, but that looks out of my league.
I would rather pay someone who knows what they are doing thank you very much.
What disk units are compatible with the COMAND units? Can any multi-disk changer be used, or is it only the MB "official" changer that is suitable?
Thanks very much for allowing me to pick your brains.

You need the MB changer i'm afraid. The same one thats detailed in Richards www.mercupgrades.com website will work with a facelifted car.

You will need the MOST bus on the car coded to accept the changer.

Yet again - thanks go out to Alfie............
I will have to save all my pennies up..........
I was hoping I might source one a bit cheaper than that........still I suppose if you want to drive the best, you have to pay the price.
