Hello all" a quick update, found a mercedes dealer today he knows the ADS system and rembers testing them with a blink tester, they have been replaced by the modern star system, which he has, it cant read the earlier codes, and sadly when mercedes gave out the star system, they asked for the old testers back. Probably why we are all having trouble diagnosing electrical faults now. All is not lost however, as I have found someone who thinks he has a blink tester. I will be meeting him next week, if anyone rembers theese blink testers can they help with the codes, again thanks to all
especially, Hibbo,Television,stats007, and,gfern, Dave.

You certainly dont need to apologise, your help has been invaluable, a week ago
the diagnostics of my car were a black art to me, I now have a good understanding of how they work, and Im now confident that with a little time I will crack the problem, Thanks Dave.

Well I will be sending my homemade tester to a new home, the push button in the end clears the codes.

Hello everybody, I have been very busey testing the ADS system on my 500SL
(1990) I found two faults, faulty oil level switch and raise/lower soliniod, I have replaced both and the ADS light now goes out when I start the car, unfortunatly suspension is still not responding. I spoke to a technition at the main dealership
who assured me this early system does not need resetting once fixed. I am in the process of making a breakout box that will allow me to check and send signals to the ADS unit and solinoids directly, while I am testing is there anything
that can cause the system to malfunction, without causing the ADS light to come on. Dave

Good luck Dave, hope you get on well. You are delving into the unknown on this one, but I think the system isn't too complex when you break it down into its constituant parts.

you are wrong on many points, i have to go to bed now - work in the morning. A damaged accumulator actually has the other effect, and the car hight is too high, and the damping system behaves like a kangaroo. will ellaborate in the morrow.;)

Still waiting for this elaboration Eric, please explain how a hydraulically locked actuator causes kangarooing.

Maybe Dave should take out all of the sensors and throw them away as eric does with air temp sensors.

Good luck Dave you will find it and make history, after all it has to be something that others have missed

Hello everybody, I have been very busy testing (By the book I might add all nineteen pages of it) with my break out harness. As posted erlier I have fixed several faults in the ADS system and cleared the related codes, but the suspension is still not functioning. My new tests have confirmed that the damper setting switch, and the ride height switch are sending correct signals to the ECU
but no signals are coming out, the tests also show correct values for all sensors and valves, the warning light on the dash goes out when engine is started, It looks like ECU is KAPUT"

Correct, they may make a kangaroo style ride, but they can only give a low ride height. so back to basics,

Hello Everyone,

I'm new here. I have a 1992 230 TE with self leveling suspension and have a problem. I too have a kangaroo style ride which is getting worse. I recently changed the pipework between the Accumilators and the Shocks and was wondering if air trapped in the system could be the problem. How do I bleed the system which sounds a similar but simplified system discussed in this thread?

Many thanks.

Try this company

Please see an earlier item 'SL 500 adaptive warning light' on this forum.
I had a fault on my SL500's ADS and found a company called SPORTSTECH near Nottingham. (www.sportstechltd.co.uk.) who resolved the problem. Having spoken to them recently I understand they have done a couple more since then, so hopefully they are developing some experience with the system.

Hello everybody, I got the new ads unit and fitting kit, I have just finished installing it, and I had hoped to bring good news to the forum, but not so.
I am getting a fault code of 18, I dont think there is such a fault, anybody got any ideas, I will be going over everything tomorrow, on the new loom there is a
small connector marked F I cant find any connection for it, is it a spare connector, the saga continues, Dave.

Hi Dave, my MB computer is off air for a few days, see what I can find later in the week
I have been doing further tests since the last post, I have discovered Im only getting 8 volts at pin No 1 on the ADS wiring harness plug, it is fed by the overvoltage protection relay, the relay also feeds one switch inside the car, the check valve on the distribution valve, as well as pin one. The four positive wires are all joined together in the main harness, yet Im getting 12 volts at relay, check valve, and switch in car, but only 8 volts at pin No 1. This is a new harness from mercedes, do I have a faulty harness, Dave.
