In a bit of a dilemma with regard to my 1996 E200. My cylinder head is cooked as a result of the timing chain tensioner not set properly. I was on the look out for a second hand head but to no avail. A lot of dismantlers including dismantlers that deal only in MB's have complete engines and wil not dismantle the head of one but will supply the complete engine, obviiously with the starter and alter missing.

With that I have purchased an engine and was wondering what is the best scenario - take the rest of my engine out or take the head of the complete engine and fit onto mine. Its a catch 22 but if someone out there would advise would appreciate. I guess the ultimate question is which ever turns out to be less time consuming.

Whole engine - easier, safer, more comeback if there's a problem and almost certainly cheaper

Was thinking that - Do I need to take any special care when splitting the engine from the auto box ? any possible fluid leakage ?

Second nick there, stright forward, just leave toque converter on the gearbox, unbolts from the flywheel, apart from that easy swap!!

I thought the torque converter would come out with the engine as is bolted to the flywheel - How do You recommend leave it wth the box ?

When you take out the engine by splitting the engine and box, just unbolt the torque converter and bolt it onto the new one

Any chance of photo's

... whilst you do the work, make a very interesting article. A bit of a cheek asking but many on here would value the output.

Cheers hope it all goes to plan.:D:D
