I'm looking for some advice on the cost of front springs for a Mercedes 300E 1987 I have been offered. The car has been lowered and I would prefer to restore to original. Can anyone advise asap, much obliged.
you'll need to talk to your local dealer and they will tell you not only which springs were fitted but which spring cups etc
they all vary from vehicle to vehicle.
If your car has been lowere there is a good chance that you'll need to replace the shock absorbers as well as the ones you have may well be designed to work with the shorter travel in a lowered system - it depends how well the job was done in the first place.
Springs cost anything from £30 a pair and fitting them (particularly the front ones) is NOT a job to undertake without the correct tools
£30 per pair?
Mine cost a lot more than that when I have had new ones fitted in the past.
The proper Mercedes spring installer makes the job a lot safer. MB will also supply the correct spring and dampers from the vin number.
The first time I had a spring problem, non of the racing mechanics of my aquaintance would touch a Merc road car spring change. My current man has all the right equipment.
