The oil separator on my C270 has a slight weep from around the top and also I seem to get quite a lot of oil going down the breather tube. I replaced the connector between the 2 tubes (the one with the electrical conection) as this was leaking but I still seem to be loosing a bit somewhere.

Can anyone tell me if it is an easy job to change the separator and also is it faulty or should quite a bit of oil be going down this tube?

The car is running fine and has no problems with oil in the MAF / air filter, just a bit annoying as this is the only oil leak

I am talking about number 53 on here http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.as...648716.649&CT=M&cat=21T&SID=01&SGR=075&SGN=07

Thanks in advance

Hi just read you thread with interest. I have a 270 estate which I am having problems with the steering. It’s been with Merc who changed the front camber bushes as well as one of the top rear suspension arms. The steering still pulls to the left. So I decided to investigate myself. While I had the rear wheels off I noticed oil in the plastic under body tray, which I traced to the front of the vehicle. It appears the oil is dripping from the turbo area. Could it be coming from the breather you mentioned? I removed the air filter to have a closer look but still find it’s difficult to see the area below the turbo. Any ideas?

I must say of the Mercs I have owned this has been the most disappointing as far as reliability. Only this morning I pressed the rear wash wipe to find the plastic pipe in the wiper spindle has cracked thus leting water into the rear tail gate. Another £60 and a job to do

I think the pulling to the left is as the dealers say a Mercedes trait.
I had a 4 wheel alignment done at a top notch specialist the other week and mine still pulls to the left a bit but overall the steering is fine.
I think you will find lots of other owners will say their cars pull to the left also.

When I first got the car there was quite a leak from the connector half way down the pipe from the separator.
I replaced the connector and it got rid of most of the leak. I jet washed that side of the engine last week and there is very little leakage now but for the sake of about £16 I will replace the separator if it is as easy as it looks ie 3-4 bolts and then lifts off. If it is more complicated then it will wait a while.

As I asked I am not sure how much oil should be going down this tube (is the separator faulty?), its not loads but obviously enough to cause a leak (the tube is push fit only)

If you need talking through where I am talking about etc PM me

The paper I sent mainly deals with the oil leak under the big hose, any reason that you could not fit small hose clips on the other pipes. By the very nature of the way they work, the turbo chargers are oily things. its always worth cleang the pipes from where they leavre the sump

Fitted the new oil seperator, just the 4 bolts on top, had to re use the 2 existing o rings as they don't supply them with the new part  Put a couple of jubillee clips on the worst 2 joints and pinched up the other clips in the area.

Did a round trip to London 240 miles (my first 'long' run in the car) and all is looking good, I will clean up all of the area again and keep an eye on it.

Was very pleased with the mpg on the London trip, averaged 42.5 and that was including 2 lots of 45 minutes of London crawling :D

Thanks to Malcolm for all his input!
