Advice on new speakers for 1989 300SL

I want to upgrade the stereo and speakers in my 300SL and wondered what other people have done. Clearly I want a little more power and am struggling on what to do with the speakers. I don't think having 4 speakers is an option so has anyone put a subwoofer somewhere that doesn't a)look ridiculous and b)wreck the car and reduce it's value.

Thoughts?

10cm Sony 25watt 2-ways

fit nicely in the dash, and you can still get the covers back on.
I have some Blaupunkt pods in the back, behind the seats near the doors above the sills. Can't hear much with the roof down any way.

Myros,

have you cut them into the panelling behind the doors/above the rear seat/shelf?

considered having better audio equipment installed but worried about cutting into door cards or panels

I upped the bass in my last car by having a bass tube installed in the boot. It's an easy install, and is reversible. The tube is held in by velcro straps so you can remove when needed. It's got its own amp.

You might need a pre-out on your head unit. Not sure where the hood stows on a convertible so that might cause issues.

Cost about £150 plus £50 to fit.

You can now also get under-seat versions which might be better for you. Unless you've got leccie seats in which case there are clearance problems.

Certainly worked for me. Had a baby not come along (and had I not warped my discs again....) I was going to do a similar thing to my C43 this year.

Makes a BIG difference

decided not to cut them

mounted with carpet tape initially, to test the sound, then I glued them with evo stick, on the basis I could remove them with a suitable solvent if needed. By happy chance the Blaupunkts are an ideal solution, as the speakers are oriented at 90degrees to the fixing plate, so I have the speakers pointing up and slightly inboard. I dont think they make them like that anymore, and I have to say, they sound better than the Sonys, but they are in a tuned pod.
