Hello,
This is my first post, so please be gentle, I'm not trying to start a VW/MB war.
We currently have an Audi A4 estate, which, since the arrival of kiddy no2, is too small (rear legroom is poor, and the boot is too small with pushchairs etc...).
We're looking at a van based people carrier (having discounted "normal" MPVs like the Sharan etc as they have individual seats, we need a flat bench for 2 seats so we can strap down the lie flat car seat).
The choice is VW T4 Caravelle 2.5TDI or the V Class (220CDI Vito based people carrier).
Having done a bit of research, I have found a few problems with the V Class:
corrosion around sliding door recess
poor quality of trim
misc electrical gremlins
auto gearbox problems
rear air suspension problems
I don't want to buy a vehicle that will cost a lot to repair if it goes wrong, so we're trying to go into this decision fully informed.
I am also aware of the general MB quality problems over recent years (mate had a Y plate C class and he hated the build quality and gremlins, and I also know about the 96-03 E class corrosion problems and have read other posts about poor quality). I love the W123 and W124 models, and have seen them as taxis with huuuuuuuge mileages.
Does anyone have a V Class, and would say "I love it, and I'd happily recommend it" or "I hate it and would never get another".
Obviously it'd be better if we found one which had had the rear air suspension replaced, and had a new auto gearbox, but that will be rare.
Any ideas, thoughts or opinions welcomed.
Cheers,
Steve
