Hi All
Been a while as I sold the E55 some months back
Been looking at getting a MB to use as my every day motor
Have seena noce lloking C240 2002 model would this be the V6 engine ?
From the pictures it looks a tremdous buy
Auto 2.4 c class estate
Any problem I should look for done around 80K

Yes it has the super 112 engine,, there are some very nice cars around at a good price

It's a toss up between a C240 Elegance Estate and an Audi 2.7t A6 at the mo

Seems there are some excellent motors to be had for some small amounts of cash at the moment.

Are there any things I should be looking for on the C240 this one has done around 80K fsh looks ine from what I have seen?

I do miss the E55 but replaced her in June with a XK convertible which is a superb piece of kit. I now want something to use for the motorway runs to keep the miles off the Jag particulalry over the coming winter months.

I would not rush if I were you,, the prices are still falling and if you can go to it,get a car after 04-03 they are galvanized

The 240 is a 2.6 at that age. It's a lovely sweet engine but not the most grunty. Cruises nicely enough but in gear pick up isn't the best so do give it a good test drive. Also, economy isn't great. in fact, consider a C320 as the difference is minimal.
To look out for, perfect idle. Any knocking and you want new leads.
Other than that - good history with gbox oil change.

Went to see one today
had done 80K but very sound and all original. Engine as you say is very sweet, and drove very smoothly, auto box seems to shift well and mechanically all OK. Interior needs a good clean and the Obsidian Black paintwork a going over with the polisher but otherwise couldn't fault it and you wouldn't have guessed the miles on the clock by looking at the car or driving.
Wheels are blistering from around the spokes, I assume this is normal for this age?
The chap said the front suspension arms had just been done, complete arms rather than just the bushes.
This was and estate Elegance late 02 reg all electric bits worked and tyres etc. in good order, grey leather interior with wood inserts etc all in good order, just needing a weekends work with some cleaner really! for £4500
I am going to stick around 20-30K on it over the next two years, I would assume it should be up for that without any major expected mishaps?
I do look after my cars so it won't be miss-used
WDYT for that?

Well it sounds as though its been looked after, and with a good body, as for the price you can only check it out with others on Top Marques or exchange and mart

If it has a MB service you could check to see if they will fix the rust free for you

I had an Audi 2.7 turbo A6 before I bought the CLK.
The 320 engine beats the Audi hands down. It's faster, smoother and feels so much better. I test drove a 240 but found it a little underpowered.
Also, the 2.7T auto gearbox failed after 90,000m - £6,000 for a new one.
