This is the pad that came with my DA polisher. You can see that the Velcro pad is larger than the adapter, the adapter is just under 6" in diameter and the pad is just over 7". Am I better off replacing with 6" or 7" pads? Not sure why the pad is not the same size like other expensive DA's?

5" plates and pads are ideal with some 3" for those hard to reach places or to avoid stripping the paint from ridges. 6" or larger is only ok for large flat areas such as a roof.

Ok, I will go for 6" as I only have a 6" adaptor, the black bit.

That should fit thanks, I'm sure 5/16" is close to .305".

The DAs that are supplied with a 6" pad (e.g. Argos/Halfords) all tend to be rebadged versions of the same Chinese unit so Guild/Challenge/Silverline/Katsu/Halfords/Durens are idenical and use a 5/16" UNC/M8 thread.
If yours is one of those it will be fine and this is pretty much the standard fitting.

The one thing this unit could do with is a longer cable but apart from that it is perfectly usable.

Great thanks, yes the cable is very short on mine.

A valeter friend of mine told me to check on the cable lengths and recommended the Poorboys one with a 5 metre cable. The Halfords one is listing a 5 metre cable now but it wasn't when I bought mine.

I only ever had the single pad, not sure if it makes a difference but it's a yellow one.
