Aerial Mast problem

My 2001 Clk320 Manual (page 348) advises unscrewing the radio aerial by turning it clockwise, whereas the adjacent illustration clearly indicates an arrow curving ANTI clockwise. The Manual instructions go on to advise refit by fixing the aerial in place and turning it anti-clockwise.

Gingerly at first, then using progressively more strength I have tried in vain to turn the aerial at all; have only succeeded in twisting the rubber alarmingly. Has anyone a solution?

Thank you. (Why is there a smiley instead of the number 8 above? It won't edit out!).

It is anticlockwise to undo. Seems like the two rubber parts have stuck together. Leave a bit of WD40 on it overnight.

Thanks for your tip; I did as suggested but no good - with very high torque force (hands only) the rubber turns (round the metallic aerial encased in it presumably). I am not very impressed - the manual made it seem a simple action. Don't suppose I'll get any different advice from an MB garage? Thanks anyway.

only thing i can suggest if that doesnt work is to heat the aerial up with a small blow torch to release it , will have to be careful not to melt the rubber though.

Plusgas, NOT WD-40 all over it. If you can get to the underside through the boot, squirt some up its skirt too. The shock might loosen it. ;O)

Have you tried to tighten it first, then loosen it?
