Has anyone got any experience with fitting an electronic aftermarket cruise control to a 1987 260E or similar. I would be grateful if anyone could help with:

A) Where I can find a Variable Speed Signal (someone has suggested that you can get a signal from one of the connectors behind the dash - and how easy is it to get the dash apart to get to the signal?)

B) How easy it is to fit a steering column control (is there space for the wiring and the attaching bolt, or would it be better to go for a centre consol control?)

C) Any recommendations about the best place to fit the unit itself (presumably the best place is in the brake servo area so the cable can run parallel to the accelerator cable).

Thanks to anyone who can help with this information.

fitting cruise to w124

hello mate, i'm an auto electrician by trade and i've just put cruise on my W124 200te.
Firstly are cars don't have an electronic speed pulse anyware that i can find so if the cruise your fitting will only work with speed pulse input not RPM input (some do) then you need to fit a hall effect geneator between your gear box and your instrument cluster. There is a compnay in Pershore called sailes marketing that make such a device it will cost about £30- but fits nicely and will give you a good square wave for your cruise.
Secondly the steering column is 1 a barstard to remove 2 brittle and prone to breakage 3 rammed full of wiring etc...
I would go for a dash/centre console mount device.
as for where to put the cruise actuator, where ever it will fit but remeber to avoid sharp bends in the actuator cable as this may cause the car to hunt when the cruise is activated.
hope i've helped.
