Hi,
I've recently purchased a 97 E230 W210 and curious if anyone has ever upgraded their headlights from the old "beam-type" lights to the newer looking projector headlamps? Or even a HID upgrade (which is terribly expensive here).

I've seen several on Ebay, and seen some in the States. The following link is from the States

http://www.gotmotorparts.com/browseproducts/96-99-Mercedes-Benz-W210-E-Class-Chrome-Projector-Headlights.html

With regard to the US version, am I correct to assume the US version wouldn't be appropriate to buy for use in England?

As a side note, I also see LED rear-lights for sale as an upgrade too. I'd be curious to know if anyone has used any of these after market products for their E class W210.
cheers,
leightos

You do need to check with the USA lamps that they have the switch for converting to RHD or that they are possible to adjust.

Hi,
I,ve e-mailed a company (they were on e-bay) in the US regarding 202 projector headlamps (they did e-class as well) asking wether they would be OK for a RHD they were a bit evasive with their reply so i decided not to bother, think there abit "too" cheap to be much good and after all they are totally plastic how long would the finish last in our climate. But i,ve seen a 202 with the rear LED lights yes they look very nice indeed there is a thread on here where you can post pics of your car and it was there take a look
there have been threads on here regarding these headlights also HID conversions do a search all a bit inconclusive though.

I find the lights on the e-class are average at best myself.

When i get round to it i am going to get down to Halfords and get some of their 50% brighter bulbs and see if that improves things.

Its surprising that MB cant do headlights.

You can get HID lamps for under £200. They can be retro fitted, which i have done on a previous vehicle. They definalty worked well.

I would go for the £20 worth of bulbs first!!

I've done the 50% brighter bulbs

Hi Slim,
I've done the brighter bulbs already. They do work in my opinion. Autobulbsdirect.co.uk has better selections and deliver quickly.
Many people like the Osram and Philips 50% bulbs. I did those on my Audi and was pleased.
But, I'm really looking for the newer style projector lights, and would be interested in the HID conversion..but, haven't seen any for a W210 for less than £400.
thanks for all the replies...
cheers,
Leightos

This was covered last month but I don't know the outcome. Speak to AJi, as he might have bought them.

I wouldn't bother. The Ebay units will probably be swimming in water after 12 months, you'll be able to put goldfish in there.

Your headlamps are a polycarbonate plastic. Have you considered removing the headlamp unit (4 bolts), disassembling it, and cleaning the inside of the lens, and the reflector? I'd bet you'd get a significant improvement just doing that.

I wonder if theres a good polishing compound for the plastic lens? Perhaps a jeweller could help.
