Hi Guys,

I just did the MOT on the car and it failed because the lights are not correct, they point too low, i have to replace them with orginal c class lights.

What is really annoying is the company i boughut the from 2xcite claim they are road legal and are E approved etc.

I am consdiering taking the company to court and reposritng them to voso ( i think thats right) as well as other regulation authorities.

Where do i stand with this now what can i do and who is right the MOT guys or the light company?

wouldn't it be possible to adjust the headlights, to the right levels/directions using the adjustment screws. also check that the level/height control knob inside the car isn't set down to it's lowest level if you have been towing or had something very heavy in the boot.

If they are the xenon projector light thingies the problem is that its a bit of a grey area, some people you talk to will say the E marked unit is approved to fit to any vehicle, but others say the unit is only E marked if tested for that particular vehicle, i've seen some companies with the "show use only" disclaimer, for a start they are only legal on cars with headlamp wash/wipe and load levellers, as said above if you really like them, refit after the MOT.

No, the easy option is to get them properly adjusted!!!

Absolutely right, I really wish people wouldn't play with their headlights. OK, so they might look cool or improve vision when driving, But certainly not when you're driving towards them. They're blinding. The locals roung here seem to think they're bling or something, every other car seems to have them, I definately don't and the owners get a serious dose of my full beam when they drive towards me with the damned things on.

i totally agree with you, but two wrongs dont make a right and deliberately blinding someone driving a large chunkof metal towards you isnt very clever, especially if YOU are already having trouble seeing 'cos they have blinded you.

I had an aftermarket conversion to Xenons on my W 220 and have had a total of zero flashes from oncoming drivers. But boy do they make a difference to night driving. Admittedly, I have not been through an MOT with them yet.

The only trouble I have ever had with light adjustment was on a W202 estate at MOT. The garage said they were wrongly adjusted (I did not think so), but they helpfully adjusted them, charged £10 for labour, and passed the car.

After a week of being flashed by all oncoming traffic, I took it back and asked them to restore the previous settings, which they did "free of charge", but they did not refund the £10.00! No more flashing thereafter. :(

Yes OK, I agree two wrongs don't make a right, but if I, and others like me who also find the incorrectly fitted or ajusted lights offending, don't flash the oncoming T?$%s, then how are they to know that their lights are offending. If they don't get flashed at, they wouldn't know any different.
