Have a mate at work who bought a very clean SKODA VRS a couple of months ago, 100,000 miles with full Skoda service history.
At 15 MPH the timing chain jumped, wreaking the engine, new engine £4500.
Skoda states it has stretched, when full service history pointed out, reply was "not a serviceable item ".
Appears most of the major makes have engines that just seem to fail.

Any marque can have any single part fail.

Make 7 million engines a year. You’ll have problems with some of them.

Whilst its difficult to hold maker responsible for breakage at 100k miles .its the maker attitude that gets me , even at 40k miles and if there is such issue with "some" of 7million they should fix it.after all if such issues effect only a few its not going to inconvenience their bottom line much ?

Correct. And the vast majority of carmakers do, for the vast majority of failures. It’s usually the exceptions one hears about.

Right, still plenty on here about shxxe nox ,adblue sensors and updates that leave customers with worse performing cars, and conflict with dealer/maker if its so few and relatively low milage why all the aggro/cost ?why not just sort it. I think emissions related kit should have warranty for the so called design life 8.1 yr or whatever and the average miles for that period. A yr or so of this would see the end of the current dramas and add maybe 10 quid to the production of decent quality. sensor ect and I bet you 50 quid it will no longer be change tanks change both story .
