...I thought I'd better try and do something about the scabs in the front subframe, visible from under the bonnet.

Thankfully it's mainly surface, where the paint is flaking off.

I have some rust treatment called Aquasteel (Jaguar subframes rust too...) so some has been applied untill I can get some black paint.

Arrrggg! I'm chasing rust already...

Not quite sure I'll ever be able to save the bonnet, which is crisping nicely...

Sounds like a good plan - I can imagine a new subframe is not cheap.

I think you can get a good used bonnet for not a lot of cash, so there is no rush on that score... at the moment ;)

Have you tried Waxoyl ? Reasonably cheap and effective. Good for old cars, you need to reapply every few months.

Not a fan of waxoil except for box sections/hard to reach areas.

It will receive Aquasteel rust converter where needed then a coat or two of Rustoleum paint on the floor pans. The large tin I have is silver but since it's underneath it won't matter...:D the garage was most surprised to see a bright silver Jaguar subframe! (Look, it was on offer, right?) I don't use underseal much except on wheel arches, because it always looks like you are trying to hide a bodge.

I'd like to find a matt black to paint the sills and bumper bottom trim, as the sills look rather bleached with age.
