Hi Guys

I'm still having problem with the main fan for the air con (climate control) on my 1997 E Class, which is soon to go up for sale.

The fan does not work anymore. I think it wore out because the air con was locked on the EC mode meaning it received no 'charge' from the air con unit. The garage managed to get it off the EC mode (no, it wasn't empty - the coolant was completely refilled). But anyway, whatever the reason - the fan doesn't work anymore.

I want to get a second hand one from a breakers (need to do it failry low-cost as the car is going to be sold - replaced it recently with an E55 :p)

However, I need to know the exact part number as there are several fans, apparently.

Can anyne advise me the model number of the fan I would need? The VIN number on the car is:

210237 20

Can anyone help???

230

Hi there

Yes, it is an E230 - estate actually.

I'm really not sure what fan it is I need - hence I'm asking :p

I don't have the fan at the moment - our local garage has removed it promising to source a replacement, but that's been going on for over five weeks (since before Xmas). And I haven't tried pulling things apart myself.

Is it possible to know which fan was originally fitted by using the VIN?

Iain the gadget has given you the details in the link,it will be the one for the single fan. Plenty around at breakers, etc. That fan does not run all of the time, only when engine is at 105c

fan

Thanks for the update. You say it's the single fan - is that the 212 or 173?

Also, you say it doesn't run all the time - only when the engine is at 105c. Do you mean 105 degrees??

Surely the engine tempurature should not affect the fan blowing? Otherwise on a very hot day you couldn't have air con until the engine was warmed up?

Or maybe I misunderstood and am being a bit simple

fans

This is the heater fan and air con fan I'd guess???

It's the main fan - the one that blows the air out of the vents - most noticable when clearing the windscreen (demist) when it get the loudest.

Are we talking about the same fan? Right now nothing blows out what-so-ever - neither hot nor cold.

Question

I have just picked the car up from the garage after weeks of the messing about.

The car is still in bits and the fan is currently removed and on the floor. It's a big fan - maybe 10-11 inches in diameter.

I'm guessing this is the main fan that demists the windcscreen and supplys the flow to the outlets in the dash.

However - does the aircon have it's own fan, or does it also work from this main fan?

Because the air con used to blow before this main fan went, and now does not. The air con just didn't blow cold.

Any ideas most welcome!
