Air-Con-Operation Unit Not Working-E200

Need help - This is driving me crazy - My Air-Con is not working on my E200 (Year#2000). There is voltage getting to the Operation unit, but it doesn't work. The A/C will no come on when selected (No light on button). The lights on the A/C switch do not come on when the car lights are turned on. The Re-circulation button does not work. I have check all the fuses I can thin of - Under the bonnet, the drivers dash, under the back seat, but no use. Only warm air coming from the Air con/Heater vents. Suspect that the operation unit requires replacement - But due to the high price of this unit, just wondering if it could be any other problem before I replace it (Garage wont take unit back if it is not the problem).Any Ideas????

Evap sensor

It could be your evaporator sensor. Does the compressor kick in or not?
If this sensor has gone then it will not let the air con kick in. £25 from the dealers.
Hard to get to though, up under the dash.
