Hi All,

Just wondering if someone would have any clues in relation to an air con problem. My air conditioning stopped working a couple of months ago.
The system basically overnight stopped blowing cold air.
I had the system re-gassed initially but that didn't solve the problem.
I then took the car to a MB authorised dealer who ran the diagnostics but nothing showed up. They thought it might me a faulty compressor.
I got the compressor tested by an air conditioning specialist company who told me the compressor is fine.
I went back to the MB dealer who then replaced a switch relay but didn't cure the problem. They now want to take the car back for half a day but don't seem to know exactly what to look for.
Whatever the problem is the compressor isn't kicking in when the air con is switched on.

Any ideas greatfully recieved - especially in this weather !!

If the dealer is any good they will be able to read the live data and find the problem. Mention the evaporator temp sensor as these are common to fault and cheap.

Sorry to 'hijack' this thread, but what is 'STAR' please? Is this some kind of software used for diagnosis and faultfinding? If so, is it just merc stealers that has it or do certain independant garages have it too?

Thanks, Ian

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Can I ask if the evaporator temp sensor and the Pressure/temp sender
are the same thing.

I had/ have the same problem on my 2001 C270. Little red ecc light would not go out. 1) Re gassed. 2) new sensor £41 + £10 fitting and regassed. Still red light. MB indi reset fault indicatior and red light out. Still no cold air. The magnetic clutch is not kicking in on compressor. I am told there is a short in the compressorBest price 4 compressor £435. It is due in Monday, hopefully cold air. By the way dont be tempted with the Kwick - Fit offers. I have had 3 refunds from them in as many weeks. On the last visit I was told they have one delivery a week on the lubricant that goes in with the gassing. This is enough for 3 cars. Dont be the 4>!
