Air Con Problems

Hi,

I have a 1998 E300 Turbodiesel with an Air Con issue.
When the car is used for the first time of the day, the air con works fine and will do so for the rest of the day providing the engine is not switched off.
However, as soon as the engine is switched off, be it after 1 min or 5 hours, the car only blows warm & will do so on all subsequent starts all day long, changing the position of the temp selector has no effect. Occasionally, the passenger vent will operate correctly and blow cold, but this is a random event.
During the fault, the car temperature is correct, the water levels are good and no other problems seem to be happening.
Can anyone help me out on this one, even a good direction to head in would be a start.

I think if it was mine, I'd book an appointment with a local air con specialist, to get them to do a check/service on the system..

It could be a problem with the duovalves, which control the airflow mixture to the interior. They tend to stick with age, leaving you with only one temperature. A light tap will confirm this. There are threads on here regarding this issue.

Thanks for the tips Chris & Dave. Where would a light tap need to be applied Chris?

Look under the bonnet near the brake fluid resevoir and there is a valve with coolant pipes attached to it. That is the duo-valve
