I have just bought a 300CE Sportline. I can't believe I didn't check before I bought it that I didn't check but you know how you miss things even if they're obvious! The dehumidifier, EC and re-circulation switches do not light up - does this mean that the whole aircon system doesn't work or might it just be the switch gear? Its a 92J - am I right in thinking that AC never works on cars that old or should I try sorting it?

Even if it's out of gas, the lights should come on, and the recirculation switch should operate.

You are probably chasing an electrical fault, time to check every fuse I think.

Don't know where the factory aircon controls are, but the Diavia aftermarket system has a small black ECU under the carpet and sound deadening on the passenger front footwell.

Thanks

where exactly is the ECU and is it possible to test it? Appears to be the after market unit fitted in 97 according to the paperwork I got with the car.

lift the carpet in the passenger footwell, and then look underneath the sound deadening foam etc... you will see a small black box with various wires coming to and from it.

I would suggest unplugging it and plugging it back in again, just in case the contacts need a clean, however the most likely cause of the problem is a fuse somewhere in the engine compartment.
