Air Con Unit - Mind of its own!

My c200 komp. (2001) has recently developed a problem with the heater control. In Automatic mode it thinks it should be in heater demist mode and only blows air to the windscreen (at full speed).

The windscreen defrost mode works fine by itself.

This stops when you turn the system to manual but the vent control seems not to want to respond fully to where I am pointing the air

Also it seems to 'click' as it tries to open the footwell vent. I cannot seem to get the footwell vents to operate in either mode. Heat and cold is not affected. my feet, however, are.....

Hi

Has anyone solved this problem yet? I also have the same car and no air blowing from the foot well air vents! Surely with all of this MB knowledge out there, someone knows how to warm my toes up! Help is appreciated!

If one of you two would let me have the first 6 numbers of VIN I can check if the lug on flap breaking off applies to you.
