Dear all,

just for info......this months edition of "Mercedes Enthusiast" has a pretty interesting article on MB air conditioning systems.  It provides tips on how to maintain it and spot the warning signs of potential problems.

Thought it was worth a mention.

Air Conditioning

On the subject of Air Con. Recently I found my Air Con system was not producing anything like the amount of cold air it was just after I had re-gassed last year. (Not that I really need it right now!).

On inspection it looked like one of the pipes from the pump to the condensor had developed a leak. I decided last Saturday to take it back to place where (I believe the prevous owner) it was installed. This was Reader Air in Woking.

There I was told, if it was just a new pipe and re-gas I would be looking at around £225.00 + vat. However, he informed me that the connection between the condensor and this pipe was aluminum to steel. When you try to remove the pipe the aluminum (condensor) fitting often threads, resulting in the condensor having to be replaced (another £250.00 + vat).

What I found was the way he insisted about connection, meant that I was 99% certain that if I take it back to him I would looking at a £475.00 +vat bill. Ouch!!!

However, via the internet I found a company in Perivale, London (www.car-aircon.com), they informed me that the connection is prone to threading, although when fitting a system, it doesn't need to over-tightened has the o-ring seals the connection.

Yesterday, I went back to Perivale and had the system fixed, all in £160.00.

Now it is working properly, and I am very happy.

Previously, I had posted Reader Air's link for a posting made by member Merc. I wouldn't use them now!

I would happily recommend Vehicle Climate Control, Perivale, London.

Sorry for being length of this posting.

Regards
