I have an intermittent fault with a slightly sticking air intake valve.
I don't really want to get the manifold taken off and replaced or cleaned with all the associated costs as I'm due to trade this vehicle in next month and could do without the hassle so I've decided to try a spray but and getting confused as to where and in what direction to spray.
I can see a wide Flexi pvc hose just after the maf(I think, diagram very unclear!). From my understanding I'm to spray into that hose down further into the engine, but am concerned I'm misinterpreting things. If anyone can reassure me or has a picture they can share is really appreciate it.

I assume your talking about the throttle body?

You will get a very very ridmentary path into it via the MAP sensor bolted to the clean air manifold, but I doubt its broken becuase its dirty, they fail quite regularly.

Hi, all I know is that it's the air intake valve. Google tells me not a lot, but on other diesel engines the big wide hose is used to spray the cleaner.
I understand what you're saying about it being broken, but if it was actually broken and really stuck/failed, I'd expect to see rough idling and shuddering while driving etc. I only ever get a very slight shudder and no rough idling. I thought the cleaner would be worth a try, and if it doesn't fix or improve it I'm just going to trade the car in as is.

If its stuck open, you will not see any change in running. It is usually stuck open.

Swirl flaps will be hard to get to with the engine running like this, they are located in the inlet manifold.

I'd still like to give this non invasive and simple procedure a try. It says it helps to clean carbon deposits, and apart from taking the manifold off with all of the potential issues, this is my one shot. If it doesn't work, I've lost ten euro and less than an hour. If it works it will be a bit easier to trade the car in.
Question still is, am I in the right place here

No, that is the air intake pipe that goes down to the turbo. Inlet manifold on other side.

Beyond googling have you had the codes read on the car, google diagsnotics can get expensive

Hi, sorry to be a bore, but I can see where the intake manifold sits in the engine bay,

Yup. It's the intake valve that's sticking. Fyi, I went back to the garage and they showed me where to spray the cleaner. Car is running a lot nicer now, eventhough it wasn't running bad at all.
The air intake is to the left of the engine bay, my first picture. It has a silver ring around it. Loosen the ring, slide the pipe off, and spray past the MAF sensor in five to ten second bursts, waiting each time for the revs to come back down.
Then take it for a little drive and let it sit for a bit. Then repeat if necessary.
