Air Leak into Diesel Fuel Filter (yet again)

My 220D (604.910) has the dreaded air leaks into the filter housing. I've replaced the o-rings, but it's all still slack and leaks profusely. I am toying with the idea of replacing the crappy o-ring filter couplings with "proper" banjo fittings, which I reckon will sort the thing once and for all, in a cost-effective manner.
Has anyone else managed to sort this leaky area, otherwise than by shelling out mega£££ for new filterhousing/pipes/ whatever?

Are you sure that is where the air is getting in?
I posted a bit in Hopin's long sorry tale about this sort of mess with a 220D. Have a look.
