I want to replace the 'dead' bulb in the passenger side air vent rotary control wheel on my W124 with passenger air bag.
How do I remove the air vent assembly? There are no visible screws. Is the air bag dash panel removable? If so, how do I release it without damage and will this give me access to the bulb behind the air vent?
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Doug

Look inside the vent itself & you will see 4 small metal clips which need to be lifted carefully with a small screwdriver and the whole unit will slide out.

Be very careful or you will break the clip mounts.

Thanks Spike, got it off now.....Must get some 0.5 Watt bulbs. The smallest Halfords sell is 1.2 Watt and that's too bright - and may melt/burn the bulb holder. Norman B very helpfully e-mailed me some photos to help me.....you should see his W124 230TE! Looks like new!

Norman B could you email me the photos as well. I didn't realise the outside vents lit up I thought it was just the central one (as you can tell I'm a fairly new W124 owner!).

Cheers

Get your bulbs from your dealer, they only cost pennies & are much better quallity than anything from Halfords
the Heater vent bulbs are a real pain to change, but they are worth it for night time drives
good luck
