Are you referring to the one on the centre console? That one will only go off with someone sat in the front passenger seat. That’s normal.

Apologies. Theres a child seat in the front passenger seat. It's not being used though on account of doubt about whether air bag is on or off. The light stays on all the time. Sorry for not responding earlier.

I think we a picture here so we're clear exactly which light is on
When I first turn on the ignition on my car, I briefly get a message appear in the centre console 'passenger airbag is OFF' this would stay lit if I had a Merc child seat with the transponder in it to tell the car to turn the airbag off. If you had an airbag fault it would show a red light or message on the dash
Does anything in your car change if you remove the child seat?

The airbag should not be operative with a child seat fitted.

the child seat needs the transponders in it though .... not just any old child seat will talk to the car
I have one up for grabs actually. Transponder works, free to a good home…

Thanks guy's for the responses. I'm gonna try taking child seat out for a short time and see what happens. I'll most certainly get back to you with the results. Thanks again
