Hello had my aircon regassed and they told me the viscous fan and aux fans don't work. Replaced the viscous fan and after checking the wiring plan for the ac on autodata, I checked the relays to find the fuses on the relays had blown. Is this a sign of anything being knackered or am I safe just to bung in some new fuses and wait for things to get hot and hope the fans start?

You will have to pop another fuse in and see what happens

AIRCON FAN & VISCOUS COUPLING FUSES

The Airconfan in front of the radiator & the viscous coupling are both powered from fuse D which is a 25A fuse.

Unfortunately the W124 fuse box is very poor design & prone to corrosion, so the fuse connections overheat & the plastic melts. I have had constant problems, so I have just pulled all the fuses out (make sure you have a dwg to so the fuse sizes, then there is a single screw which allows you to lift the fusweholder out with the wires attached. Turn it over then place in a small rectangular dish filled with battery acid for two hours. Put a cloth underneath to catch any spilt acid. You will need a bricj to hold it down flat.

After removing from the acid, wash copiously with water & dry off, then get a pot scourer & clean all the contacts. Replace in fuse box & fit all the fuses. Run the car till the fan starts (100 Deg C) then check the volt drop across the fuse. On mine it was 168 mV.

THe problem is if the FUSE D you alos use the fluid coupling fan so as soon as you stop at a traffic light, the engine will overheat. Best to fit a separate fuse & relay for the AC fan, so it wont stop the viscous coupling if the AC fan fuse blows

So the new viscous fan is now working OK ?

Your only problem now is the front air con fans - correct ?
