Hi, I have just found out that the AC compressor on my '99 C250TD is leaking. I can find many places that 'top up' and leak detect systems, but can anyone please point me somewhere that actually repair or do a 'swap out' with a reconditioned unit.

As i understand it the car is not driveable without the compressor fitted so it would have to be somewhere I can drive to and have the swap done while I wait.

Also, does anyone know roughly what an exchange/repair might cost for this unit, including recharge?

I live in Wigan so would really need North West UK.

Thanks,

Neil.

AUTOLOCK at Crewe 01270 584955 definately swap shaft seals, while you wait I'm not sure about. The car IS driveable with the compressor removed, depending how the v belts are you may need to fit a shorter belt if it drives the alternator and water pump etc.

If you need a price for a replacement compressor ring C.A.R.S.(UK) Ltd and ask for Mark, tell him you know Andy from A1 Cooling, ring him on 01782 823333. Incidentally CARS sell lots of air conditioning components such as condensers etc, they don't keep them in stock but can get them pretty quick.

H Andy, thanks very much for the help. I am waiting for a callback from CARS on a price, and am just about to ring Autolock to see what they have.

I know I am being cheeky now, but I have found somewhere that I can get one but they need to know the part number. Is there any way, other than asking a dealer, of finding out what it is? I have looked at the one that is one but don't know where to start with regard to a number.

Thanks again for the help.

Unfortunately I do not have the part numbers, if you look on the compressor body there should be a data plate with something like:
Nippondenso or Denso 10P15C or 10PA17C or 10P17C or 10PA20C or 6CA17C or 7SB16C or even GMA6. If you can get the info off the compressor then I will try and find you a part number. A company called hella at Byfleet, Surrey sell service exchange compressors, may be worth a look either hella.co.uk or .com, let me know how you get on.
