Got home this evening and found "the wife" sitting in the drive beeping the horn. It would seem that when she pulled up in the drive she couldn't open the centre consol box to get the garage remote control out:mad: Several things recently have been playing up so will list them as I remember.............

1. Alarm setting to lock and unlock not too effective - replaced both batteries in key fob and thought everything is okay, but appears not the case.

2. When coming to a stop (engine running) the centre consol glove box refuses to open - but after switching off the ignition everything seems okay.

I have swapped the spare remote to see if this alters things, but is the problem as simple as just a faulty remote or is there a more sinister problem lurking.

Are alarm / locking faults stored on the cars ECU, if so is it worth me having the fault codes read at MB?

Replies from you electrical bods much appreciated ;)

Not yet got all the piping etc. - strange thing is it hasn't rained here for over a week and the car is kept in the garage:eek: How ares the doors controled, is it by vaccum and is the centre box also by vacuum or electric.

If it was the pump would it give the fault where the operation of the key remote is erraric to the point that you sometimes have to get right up close to the car to unlock?

Malcolm

It's been working okay with my spare remote so was wondering if there was any way of getting into the other remote to check / clean things etc.

Can't seem to find a way to completely dismantle:mad::mad:

They are not always easy to open as some are welded up, the only thing to do is to go round and round with a sharp knife, if you are successful and can find a fault on the PCB soldering you can weld it back together with plumbers pipe solvent

Best I can offer

Cheers Malcolm - A new key is going to cost me in the region of £160.00 plus vat so it's worth trying to open up the old key.

I may try spraying the circuit board first with contact cleaner and dry it out and see if this improves things;)

So a new remote it is then :-o:-o Mercedes want to see my passport and a utility bill before they will order, I suppose it's not a bad thing - keeps the chances of someone else getting a key for my car
