Alarm going off ml

Hi all just got my self a ml 270 cdi yesterday , 2004 27000 miles from new drove it home 100 + miles ,its now sitting on drive and the alarm decided it wanted to go off ,any ideas why thisshould start with out being driven ,and is there any thing i can check on it to see if any thing is wrong

Was it just audible or did the lights flash as well !!

Siren at a guess, early siren had a tendency to allow water to get in them, replaced the part number so its now a better part, not sure 100% if this could the same fault found on other mercedes but it sounds similar.
Siren is about £70 from MB and takes half an hour to fit.
