My car currently has no alarm fitted so i was wondering what type of alarm / immobiliser would work with the central locking system.

Any info appreciated.

remote locking alarm

Hi,:)
Depending on the age and make of the car you may have to put an additional door locking solenoid in the the drivers door, because in "key" actuated central locking you physically lock the drivers door with the key, hence no solenoid needed.
Remote locking would work but would leave the drivers door unlocked
I would recommend a spyball or toad alarm, Clifford alarms are good but i,ve heard the remotes are EXTREMELY expensive to replace but as long as the alarm is thatcham approved you should,nt have problem.
Hope this been helpful
Andy,

Thanks for the replies.

My car is a W124 1990 diesel.
Have absolutely no idea how the central locking works. Obviously i need to turn the key in the lock but no idea whether it is electric or vacuum.

What do you think to this unit;

Not too bothered about the Thatcham business as i don't think it will make much difference to my premium.

it is easily done and a good alarm place will have no proble, avoid one of those 50 quid jobs.

Infact as i recall my w124 actaully came with no alarm, but it was a dealer fit, who was it now, i believe the company is based in preston, come on guys help me out here. (2 button rectangle remote with red led)

anyway no doubt alarm technology has moved on since then,

you will have no problem as long as its reputable company!

Why do you need an alarm? Has your insurance company decided they will not cover you without one? Or did they suggest you would get a discount on the premium if you have one fitted. You may well find that any savings on your insurance are more than wiped out by the cost of the alarm.
Unless you can hear the alarm it is of no use. There are many options available for immobilsation without resorting to having an immobiliser fitted. A simple hidden switch would suffice to interupt power to the fuel pump.

Not my fuel pump i'm afraid.;)

I need an alarm as a deterent mainly, as i sometimes have things in the car worth a couple of hundred pounds.
I have a load area blind which helps.

It is mainly the convenience of pressing a button to unlock the door plus the added benefit of the remote start would be a boon in winter.

For £69 i think it is a decent price. Not heard of any problems with them yet.

were you thinking of doing it yourself? If so...

fitting an immobiliser is not that difficult...the 2 interrupts would be the starter motor and the fuel pump. Both are easy to get to.

also there are instructions on the net to fit the remote locking/unlocking part to the central locking pump.
