:( :( I have a 1994 c180 Saloon that the alarm has stopped working on . I can only open the doors with the key now. I have tried tracing the wiring to the alarm unit , if there is one , but cannot locate it. Does anybody know where the unit is on the car so i can a least check fuses / wiring. I have replaced the batteries in both key fobs as well.

alarm

Hi topspark

If you have red and green lights in the interior rear view mirror the alarm unit is a retro fit item and can be located anywhere but it is usually fitted below the passenger kick plate, but if you have no central locking your problem could be the IFZ located behind the cluster ( infared locking ) but the problem could also be the PSE pump itself, this is located in the off side rear wing. The first thing to check is that the batts are OK in the remote unit.

The most common thing is that the key either doesn't work or needs syncronising. to sync key point at leds and press then put in igntion and turn on for 30 seconds, some systems require you to unlock the door with the key and then turn igg on for 30 secs

good luck

cheers for the reply but ive probably not explained very well. The central locking still works as normal with the key in the doors. I think with my car being an early C class they are almost like an after fit alarm but have all the stickers on the windows that it is an MB fit unit . My wife has a Kia sportage 4WD and she has the same key fobs as mine which are scorpion. I will keep you posted if i can find the alarm unit and how i get on before i take it to anybody to look at it.
What i dont understand is why i didn't have to turn the overide key in the glove box to start it ????

cheers
