alarm problem

hello,
i am new to this forum used to be in one with previous car and found them very helpful.
i own a 1997 c220 esprit.last night i was out in it and it wouldnt start the lights on the mirror were working ok but when i came to start it both the red & green together were flashing and the engine immobilised.tried all the resetting steps and still no joy.
i got my spare credit card type key from home and it works.any ideas what could be wrong with the key?

Have you checked the batteries in the the key fob?

"When the red and green indicator lamps flash for approximately 30 seconds when locking or unlocking the vehicle, then the batteries in the remote control should be changed. "

"To check the battery, hold the transmitter button for more than a second. The battery check light on the remote control should light up. If the light does not show, then the batteries should be replaced."

or swap the batteries over from the one that works.
