Hi there, I recently got a C280 MB. So far all the options have been wicked, but I am having problems alarming it. I read the manual and it didn't help. I can't seem to arm it, is there a button I am supposed to press. All the book said that once you lock it from the front doors, the LED will blink and that means it is armed. I haven't seen it do that, if you can help me out here, I would appreciate it. Thanks :)

PS: I think the alarm is by MB. There is a button on the center dash board near the fan buttons. When I push it up it locks the whole car and unlocks by pushing down. The book said it had something to do with that :?

c alarm

Hi Amun

It depends what year your C class is do you have a red and green light in your rear view mirror or is it a later car with a DAS 3 Key ( more like a plastic plug you put in the ignition switch)

If as I suspect you do have the red/green lights you probably have an MBSS alarm. Which probably has some faults diag from a distance on this system is almost impossible. Best bet is don't worry about the alarm as nobody can steal the car without the key as it is automatically imobilised by another MB system

Mines is a C280 and the year is 1996, Where is the LED supposed to be located at? I'm guessing center dash board?
I'll check it out tommorrow morning if there are lights on the rear view mirror. I don't think there is, but I am not 100$ sure. As for the DAS 3 Key, I never got one. My dealer told me once you lock and unlock the car from the doors it should kill the engine and alarm it. But I have seen no LED glow, and I saw one when I went there :?

Alarm/Immobiliser?????

I have a 1996 C280 and I am not sure what or which alarm/immobiliser I have. Remote locking is by plipper, activating central locking and green lights flashing on mirror and door handles (when locking), red fashing (when unlocking). But no flashing red LED. I certainly don't have the rocker button on the dashboard which includes a red LED - this is presumably the standard factory-fitted alarm/immobiliser, and I've seen it on other MBs. What I do have is a pair of little gadgets above the dashboard on either side, just over the air vents, which look like miniature TV cameras but with a little mesh disk instead of a lens. The one on the right has a red LED, which makes me think these are the sensors of an alarm/immobiliser. But I don't know how to operate it; ie. the red LED won't flash, and I don't get any feeling that the system is set or primed. (Plus I had a break-in last year and there was no evidence that an alarm had gone off.) I do have a small conventional key with each of the central locking plippers - I did think these might be something to do with an alarm, but I can't find anywhere where these fit.

I have seen these "sensors" on several other MBs, including one E320 I test drove - the (secondhand) dealer didn't seem to know anything about them when I asked.

Help please!

Sounds like you have the early (non remote locking) version, this does not come with an alarm. Doors are locked with the key, and only the Starter Motor is isolated (via a relay in the n/s/f pillar which is controlled from the c/lock pump). Switch on dash is only to lock car from inside (does'nt work when car is locked), Dealers were fitting a Scorpion alarm at PDI, some missed out.
