Hi,further to my problem with the alarm not disabling by the key fob i have been told 2 major things.
1..the keyfob is no good..
2.the keyfob is fine its the reciever on the alarm thats no good..
On both analytical? examinations niether firm actually looked at the reciever so i,m wondering(as the fault was so dramatic)if it is possible for an arial to displace on the reciever(which i assume is under the dash), or even if it is possible to replace the reciever when i find it ,so excluding a complete alarm and immobilisor installation.
I am really intrigued over this problem...the fob battery .....went flat...then no response when i replaced the battery. the alarm is constantly active if the fuse to it is fitted even when disconecting the car battery for half an hour or so.
any help will be appreciated
i will keep you all informed
(i really want to prove these 2 auto experts wrong ,i really really do)
Cheers.Colin

Do you have both fobs?
How long was the battery flat before you changed it?
What car do you have and is it original MB or aftermarket alarm?

As all newer alarms have rolling codes they can get out of sync especially if one fob is used all the time.

Are MB now using rolling codes,I know that is done on RF, but cant be done on infra red.

Fob is RF (around 433Mhz). Key is IR only into the steering lock

On most modern rolling code alarms you have around 2 minutes to replace the battery otherwise you need to re-code it to the alarm system. If you have the original paperwork it may tell you how to do this. I have not come across a system with only 1 fob it may be worth searching around for the other (previous owner?)
Alternatively you could try the below 2 links as yours is not an MB alarm
http://www.alarmremotes.co.uk/
http://www.driverstechnology.co.uk/key-fobs.htm
I have not tried these companies so cannot attest to their capabilities.

thanks for your help blobcat but i am getting nowhere with the alarm.
I will try to find the sender/receiver unit to check for a loose connection.......what annoys me is that the alarm is still active after the battery has been disconected for well over an hour resulting in a loud wail when trying to sync the keyfob.but if anyone can advise me that that is the way to do it i will give it another bash(sic)..cheers colin
