Hi

Anyone got some recommendations for an alloy wheel refurbisher ? Are the guys who collect/deliver different to those you send off the wheel

Luckily, when my (brand new)SL55 was delivered, I took it for a test drive and got the wheels nice and hot. Looked at one front wheel, and it had had two repairs that had dropped out in the heat. (Looks like the damage happened when it was on the back of a transporter where the wheels were tied down - I know the dealer well, and they didnt damage/repair it)

Anyway. the lucky bit is they gave me the damaged one .. So, it needs repairing :)

(as it happens, they put the wrong new one on - there are two subtly different ones, one with a polished outside edge and one with a matt one. The others are matt. Maybee I'll get another free wheel (maybee a refurbisher can make that one matt)..

Lapsons in Kent did mine for me - and they did an A1 job on them,  http://www.lepsons.com/

I bought the set with severe corrosion on them - although no dents - and they stripped the new tyres off, refinished and painted them - guaranteeing the finish for 1 year all then refitted and balanced for £160 inc VAT

You have just bought a brand new SL55 and all four wheels don't match?

You have got to get your dealer to sort that out, totally unacceptable for any new car yet alone a MB.

Dealer is sorting it. What happened was that one was damaged when it was on a trailer, so they replaced it. But there are two almost (but not quite) identical 5 spoke AMG type III alloys. The only difference being the outer edge of the rim is matt on one and shiny on the other. They didnt notice until they had done the wheel swop (most dealers uses a mobile fitter who has all the balancing kit in his van, and he didnt notice at all).
- I suspect their electronic parts catalog for some reason lists the wrong part - since thats where they got the part number from. I bet they wish they looked at the back of the wheel to get the part number, as that mistake will cost them a few hundred quid, since Ive done a few hundred miles on the wrong wheel now ..

The difference is *really* hard to notice, and the new part will be here next week ...
